This Level 2 Health and Safety course provides fundamental knowledge for employees across various industries, enabling them to work safely and contribute to a healthy work environment.

 

 
Legal framework
  • Employer and employee responsibilities: The duties of both employers and employees under key health and safety legislation, such as the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
  • Enforcement: How health and safety law is enforced and the potential consequences of non-compliance for both the company and individuals.
  • Legislation overview: A look at key regulations, including those concerning the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and manual handling. 
 
Risk assessment
  • Principles of risk assessment: A foundational understanding of the risk assessment process.
  • The 5-step process: How to identify hazards, evaluate risks, and determine and implement effective control measures.
  • The hierarchy of control: An understanding of different control measures and how to apply them, from elimination to personal protective equipment (PPE). 
 
Common workplace hazards and controls
  • Slips, trips, and falls: Common causes and preventive measures.
  • Fire safety: The causes of fire, preventive measures, and emergency procedures.
  • Electrical safety: How to recognise and prevent electrical dangers.
  • Manual handling: Safe lifting techniques and how to avoid injuries.
  • (COSHH): How to handle substances safely and understand the risks.
  • Work equipment: Safe use of workplace equipment and basic maintenance.
  • Working at height: Basic safety precautions for work carried out at a height. 
 
Workplace health and welfare
  • First aid: The requirements for first aid provision and what to do in an emergency.
  • Emergency procedures: Evacuation plans and other emergency protocols.
  • Wellbeing: Basic issues such as welfare facilities, work-related stress, and conflict. 
 
Accidents and incidents
  • Incident reporting: Procedures for reporting accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • Incident investigation: The importance of investigating the root cause of incidents to prevent recurrence. 
 
Course structure
  • Ideal for: Employees in low to medium-risk environments, new starters, and anyone needing a refresher.
  • Format: The course is commonly delivered online or in-person, taking around one day to complete, or 4–10 guided learning hours for online versions.
  • Assessment: Knowledge is typically tested through a multiple-choice question exam at the end of the course.
